Select Function By LJV Rotary Potentiometer
First of all, we need to know that potentiometer is totally different from encoder. Potentiometer, which is abbreviated as pot, is mainly made up of resistive element and wiper in order to adjust resistance. When the wiper is moving alongside the resistive element, its displacement and the resistance between terminals and voltage are very much correlated. Pot is often refered to as variable resistor.
While enoder consists of encoding disk and wiper with pulse quadrature output.
In electronic industry, rotary encoder would be a best choice to select the functions of appliances through menu ( that is exactly what encoder does!)
And here engineers from LJV would like to introduce you how to select functions by rotary potentiometer. As aforementioned, pot is used to control voltage and resistance, so is it possible to select functions through adjusting resistance? Yes, it could be done by writing a program to calculate the resistance and then convert it to angle which will be recognized by rotary potentiometer.
Rotary potentiometer may not be the best choice to select functions, but under some special conditions, it might be a better option. Several kinds of LJV rotary potentiometer, such as RP39 and RP09, etc., have been designed for this purpose. With its accurate angle locating and stable resistive element, LJV rotary potentiometer could greatly ensure your products stability.
